Kick off the holiday season!

The Ojai Holiday Home Tour & Marketplace kicks off the holiday season with festive inspirations on November 12 and 13, 2016. Presented by the Ojai Festivals Women's Committee, this annual event, entering its twentieth year, invites guests to tour four distinctive Ojai Valley homes, each with historical significance in the valley. The Home Tour and Marketplace benefit the Festival and its BRAVO education and community program, which offers free music workshops to the Ojai Valley public schools and the community.
Taking place that same weekend is the companion event, the Holiday Marketplace, held at the Matilija Junior High School Gymnasium (703 El Paseo Road) featuring a collection of curated lifestyle and fashion items from more than 40 vendors. Admission to the Marketplace is free. Weekend hours of the self-guided tour are 10am to 4pm. The Marketplace hours are 10am to 5:30pm on Saturday and 10am to 4:30pm on Sunday.
Tour tickets are on sale online, by calling 805 646 2053, and at participating ticket outlets – Attitude Adjustment, Down Home Furnishings and Flora Gardens in Ojai and Fox Fine Jewelers in downtown Ventura. And don't forget to enter our raffle, with the Grand Prize – a spa weekend in Ojai!

The four homes on the 2016 tour are:
El Toro
Designed by A. E. Harvey and built by R. W. Winfield in 1926, this magnificent Spanish Colonial Revival home has been lovingly preserved. Hand-painted coffer ceilings, navy blue painted wooden floors, and original, colorful tilework throughout the house are just some of the stunning design elements you'll discover. The large, apple green kitchen with its original cabinets, black and white floor, massive stove, and Juliet balcony overlooking the pool and guest house is a chef's dream.

Libbey House
Nestled among drought-resistant gardens featuring agave plants, lavender and a proud pine tree standing guard by the pool, this handsome 1908 craftsman-style home was built by legendary architects Myron Hunt and Elmer Grey for Edward Libbey and was modeled after a Swiss hunting lodge that Libbey had admired. Over a century later, the home still showcases among its many architectural treasures the original hand-painted Dutch door and pitched ceiling in the living room, leaded glass French doors off the dining area, and original sconces throughout the house. Ladera Ranch Home
In the 1970's a small 300-square-foot Forest Service building from the 40's was moved to this East End property and expanded with a living room and master bedroom. Last year the house was remodeled into a contemporary design, which included moving the kitchen to create a great room and adding a spacious master bath. Some of the history of the house remains such as the great room ceiling, which is framed by charred wood beams from an old pier in Goleta, California. Floral designer: Janelle Interiors
Carroll House
Built for Loretta Young by her husband in the early 1950's, this updated mid-century gem is a sophisticated mix of comfortable, contemporary furniture, and antiques. Wide, white molding surrounds an expansive window in the living room, framing the outdoor veranda and garden. The room is complemented by stunning bird paintings and lithographs. Other interior walls highlight dramatic abstract art. Also on the property are two beautifully appointed guests houses and a pool surrounded by grass ingeniously painted green to help save water.
